France's EDF Energy announced on Friday a new three-year power supply agreement with British hotel and restaurant operator Whitbread plc. Under the deal, EDF Energy will deliver approximately 340 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity to Whitbread over the next 36 months.
The agreement specifies that the electricity provided will be certified as zero-carbon, sourced exclusively from wind and solar power facilities.
This will help Whitbread, which operates UK brands such as Premier Inn, Beefeater, and Cookhouse Pub, optimize its energy use and further reduce its environmental impact.
Whitbread has committed to significant emissions reductions, with goals to cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 99.6% by 2040 and its Scope 3 emissions by 90% by 2050. The new power supply arrangement aligns with these long-term sustainability targets.
EDF Energy, which currently operates over 1.5 GW of renewable power capacity in the UK and has nearly 14 GW of projects in the planning and development stages, will support Whitbread's environmental objectives with this agreement.
