Acciona Energia announced on Monday that it has finalized a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Spanish hotel chain and tourism company Grupo Iberostar.
The agreement will see Acciona Energia supply 80 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of 100% renewable electricity annually for a period of 11 years.
The PPA will cover all of Iberostar's electricity needs in Spain, including its hotels, offices, and the travel division World2meet.
Under the agreement, Acciona Energia will source the electricity from its renewable assets in Spain and provide Iberostar with guarantees of origin.
Additionally, the deal will offer Iberostar access to energy traceability through Acciona Energia's blockchain-based platform, Greenchain. This platform will verify the renewable origin of the electricity in real time.
This power procurement aligns with Iberostar's sustainability objectives and its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
For Acciona Energia, the agreement is part of its broader strategy to secure medium- to long-term PPAs with corporate clients, aiming to have around 80% of its electricity covered by such contracts, as opposed to the wholesale market.
