Infinity Power, a joint venture between Egypt's Infinity and Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, has announced its intention to develop 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy projects in Sierra Leone by 2033. This initiative aims to significantly enhance the country's power generation and supply infrastructure.
The company formalized its plans by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sierra Leone government. The project will be implemented in phases and will include a range of technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV), floating solar, wind, hydropower, and battery energy storage.
Infinity Power will work in collaboration with Sierra Leone's Ministry of Energy to conduct feasibility studies, obtain the necessary permits, and finalize power off-take agreements with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). The initial phase will focus on deploying 200 MW of additional hydroelectric capacity, along with floating and ground-mounted PV systems.
The Sierra Leone government has pledged to provide the necessary support to facilitate the successful implementation of the initiative. This project is expected to contribute to the country's sustainable energy goals, economic development, and environmental objectives.
Infinity Power, recognized as Africa's largest renewable energy provider, also recently committed to developing up to 4 GW of renewable energy projects in Cameroon by 2035.
