Toshiba Corp and Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore Virtual Power Plant (VPP) opportunities in Taiwan.
The agreement, announced on Thursday, will see Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp (Toshiba ESS) and Toshiba Electronic Components Taiwan Corp join forces with ITRI to assess and demonstrate how market trading operations and resource management strategies can improve the stability of Taiwan's power infrastructure.
Under the MoU, Toshiba will provide its expertise in resource aggregation technologies, including predictive analytics for power generation, renewable energy, and battery storage.
ITRI will contribute its understanding of Taiwan's energy market framework and its technologies for Demand Response systems and battery energy storage system (BESS) integration.
Toshiba highlighted Taiwan's goal to achieve a renewable energy share of 27%-30% of its energy mix by 2030, underscoring the significance of this collaborative effort in supporting the island's energy transition.
