Dubai-based renewables developer AMEA Power has received approval to connect 2,000 MW of renewable energy capacity to Egypt's power grid by the summer of 2025. This approval was granted by Egypt's Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, during a meeting on Wednesday, according to a cabinet statement.
The projects include expanding the existing 500-MW Abydos solar energy project, which is currently under construction, by an additional 500 MW. AMEA Power recently reported that approximately 75% of the construction work has been completed, with over 450,000 solar panels and 350 MW of trackers already installed at the Aswan governorate site.
Alongside the 1,000 MW of solar capacity, AMEA Power is developing the 500-MW Amunet wind farm in Ras Ghareb, which is expected to become operational by the summer of 2025. The additional capacity will also include a battery energy storage system.
These projects mark a significant step in Egypt's efforts to boost its renewable energy infrastructure and meet its growing energy demands.
