A significant portion of a GE Vernova Haliade-X blade detached from the turbine at the 804MW Vineyard Wind project on Thursday morning, following an earlier blade failure on Saturday.
Vineyard Wind reported that maritime crews had been on site overnight to address the situation. “Maritime crews were onsite overnight preparing to respond to this development, though current weather conditions create a difficult working environment,” the company stated.
Despite adverse weather conditions, a fleet of vessels remains deployed at sea to manage the situation and remove bulk debris. Vineyard Wind has also sent additional crews to Nantucket Island in anticipation of more debris potentially washing ashore. “We have deployed additional crews to Nantucket Island in anticipation that more debris could wash ashore tonight and tomorrow as we continue to monitor additional coastal communities,” the company added.
The company noted it is closely monitoring GE Vernova's efforts to manage the situation, including the removal and recovery of the remaining blade still attached to the turbine. “We are staying apprised of GE Vernova's efforts to manage the situation, including the removal and recovery of the remaining blade attached to the turbine,” Vineyard Wind said.
