Brazilian power sector regulator Aneel announced on Monday that the country saw a significant increase in its renewable energy capacity last month, with 451.15 MW from solar farms and 292.8 MW from wind parks coming online.
In June alone, Brazil's total new capacity additions reached 889.51 MW, including contributions from thermal plants alongside solar and wind sources.
According to Aneel, Brazil's electricity system expanded by 5,670.32 MW in the first half of 2024 across various technologies. As of early July, the nation's total installed power generation capacity stands at 203,895.63 MW, dominated by hydro (53.88%), wind (15.22%), and biomass (8.31%).
Aneel projects a further growth of 10.1 GW in Brazil's electricity generation by the end of 2024.
