Pacific Green, an energy storage company, has secured planning consent from the South Australian government for its inaugural grid-scale battery energy parks in the Limestone Coast region. These parks will encompass a 500MW/1.5GWh battery energy storage system, developed and constructed in two phases over the next 36 months, aiming to bolster regional grid stability.
Joel Alexander, Managing Director & CEO of Pacific Green Australia, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “This is a major milestone for the Limestone Coast Energy Park assets, and we are pleased that the South Australian government has recognized the rigorous assessment and community consultation work we have undertaken to date. We look forward to re-engaging with the local community to maximize the tangible economic benefits of the Limestone Coast Energy Parks and to ensure funding and local contracting opportunities are open to all relevant groups.”
Pacific Green plans to commence construction towards the end of this year, with the initial phase slated for operational readiness by the second half of 2026. The development marks the commencement of an extensive 8.5GWh pipeline of battery energy parks across Australia, leveraging the company's extensive experience in similar projects in the UK and Europe.
This initiative aligns with Pacific Green's strategic goal to position itself as a leading developer in Australia's renewable energy transition, contributing significantly to the country's multi-gigawatt renewable energy platform.
