Several developers, including RWE, BlueFloat Energy, , and a RES joint venture, have received feasibility licences from the Australian government to proceed with wind farm developments.

These projects mark significant advancements in Australia's landscape, aiming to harness offshore wind resources for substantial generation.

RWE's Kent Offshore Wind Farm project, located near the Kent Group islands in the Bass Strait off Victoria's coast, has received exclusive seabed rights for development.

Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, emphasized the strategic importance of the project, stating, “By securing exclusive seabed rights in the Bass Strait off Gippsland, we are now entering the Australian offshore wind market and will bring our more than 20 years of experience in this field.”

Meanwhile, BlueFloat Energy's Gippsland Dawn Offshore Wind Project has also been awarded a feasibility licence, with plans to potentially generate up to 2.1GW of electricity, enough to power over one million homes.

Darragh White, project director of Gippsland Dawn, highlighted the project's economic and environmental benefits, stating, “Gippsland Dawn will bring strong and lasting benefits to Gippsland and Australia.”

Corio Generation's Great Eastern Offshore Wind project, located off the Gippsland coast near Wilsons Promontory, aims to contribute significantly to Australia's offshore wind sector, supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Additionally, the Navigator North project, a joint venture between Origin and RES, has received a feasibility licence to advance its plans for a 1.5GW offshore wind farm approximately 34 kilometres from the shore.
