On Monday, Strata Clean Energy, a prominent US solar and storage developer, announced a significant milestone with the signing of a 20-year tolling agreement for its Justice Energy Storage project in collaboration with Arizona Public Service (APS).
Located near Skyline Regional Park in Phoenix, Arizona, the Justice Energy Storage facility is set to provide 150 MW of power capacity, complemented by a substantial energy storage capability of 600 MWh. Scheduled for completion by April 2026, the project aims to meet the energy needs of approximately 24,000 homes over a four-hour period.
This agreement marks another strategic move for Strata Clean Energy following a similar 20-year deal inked last year for its Scatter Wash battery storage complex, which boasts 255 MW of capacity and 1 GWh of storage. Both projects are designed to enhance energy reliability in a rapidly growing service area characterized by increasing energy demands, while also integrating more clean electricity into the regional grid.
Brian Cole, Vice President of Resource Management at APS, highlighted the benefits of projects like Justice Energy Storage, noting their capacity to support customers during peak demand periods, particularly in Arizona's scorching summers.
Justice Energy Storage secured its contract through APS's comprehensive request for proposal (RFP) process initiated in June 2023, aimed at sourcing 1 GW of resources, including 700 MW from renewable energy sources.
This initiative underscores Strata Clean Energy's commitment to bolstering Arizona's energy infrastructure with sustainable solutions, contributing to a cleaner and more resilient power grid for the region.
