Egypt and the UAE have unveiled plans to collaborate on enhancing Egypt's renewable energy capacity by adding 4 GW to its power grid starting next summer, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced during a meeting with senior officials from the Gulf nation.
The meeting, attended by UAE's Industry Minister and Masdar Chairman Sultan Al Jaber, underscored the feasibility of addressing Egypt's energy challenges, including power outages. Al Jaber emphasized the importance of developing a clear roadmap for Egypt's energy sector and proposed various cooperation mechanisms spanning short, medium, and long-term initiatives.
Alongside Prime Minister Madbouly and Minister Al Jaber, the gathering included Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister Kamel Al-Wazir, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy, Masdar's CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, and officials from both countries. Discussions centered on joint ventures in renewable energy and local industry development.
Masdar, based in Abu Dhabi, is actively engaged in several ambitious green energy projects in Egypt. Teaming up with its joint venture Infinity Power and Cairo-based Hassan Allam Utilities, Masdar is spearheading a 10 GW wind project, having recently secured a land access deal in May. The company is also advancing a multi-phase green hydrogen initiative as part of its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
