Spanish utility Iberdrola SA reported a robust increase in renewable energy production worldwide during the second quarter of 2024, according to its latest provisional energy report.
Power generation from offshore and onshore wind, hydro, mini-hydro, solar plants, and fuel cells reached 21,145 GWh, marking a significant 12.6% rise year-on-year.
For the first half of 2024, Iberdrola's renewable facilities delivered a total of 45,181 GWh, reflecting a 5.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The company noted growth across nearly all markets, including Spain with a notable 24.1% surge in the second quarter and a 21.4% increase in the first half.
In the UK, renewables production rose by 15.7% in Q2 and by 8.3% in H1, while the US saw a 13.6% rise in Q2 and a 2.2% increase in H1.
Mexico also experienced gains, with a 14.6% increase in Q2 and a 10.0% rise in H1, while markets categorized as Rest of World reported a substantial 41.6% increase in Q2 and 33.5% in H1.
However, Brazil stood out with a decline in renewable power production, decreasing by 17.3% year-on-year in Q2 and by 28.9% in H1, primarily due to reduced installed hydro power capacity.
