Portuguese utility announced on Thursday plans to install 5.1 MWp of panels atop the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), marking the establishment of 's largest solar neighborhood.

With over 9,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels, the roofs of FIL's buildings are set to achieve near self-sufficiency during daylight hours, while also sharing generated power with more than 5,000 local households and businesses.

This initiative, named the EDP Solar Neighbourhood, stems from a collaboration between the AIP Foundation Group and EDP Comercial, covering a sprawling 44,000 square meters (473,612 square feet) across FIL's four pavilions.

Once operational, the solar array is projected to produce approximately 6.8 GWh annually.

Since launching its Solar Neighbourhoods initiative in Portugal in 2020, EDP has engaged in partnerships forming around 3,400 energy communities, collectively capable of adding over 100 MWp of solar capacity, the company noted.
