Chilean state-owned copper giant Codelco has launched a tender process on Monday to secure 1,500 GWh of renewable power annually for a 15-year period extending through 2040.
The 2024 Bidding Process invites both domestic and international companies experienced in renewable energy to participate, offering options in non-conventional and conventional renewables, Codelco announced.
“The power supply period will span from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2040,” stated Codelco, emphasizing its commitment to decarbonizing its energy sources while ensuring electricity needs for its operations and potentially third-party suppliers.
This initiative follows Codelco's recent adjustment of terms in a legacy coal-based power purchase agreement (PPA), aligning with its strategic goals in sustainability and carbon reduction.
Interested parties are required to express their interest via email to Codelco by July 19, 2024. The tender process will feature a pre-qualification phase followed by a qualification phase, enabling pre-qualified companies to submit bids through Codelco's online bidding administration system.
Earlier this year, Codelco concluded a significant renewable power procurement by awarding 15-year PPAs totaling 1.8 TWh/year to Atlas Renewable Energy, Colbun SA, and Innergex Renewable Energy.
