Avangrid, a subsidiary of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA, has achieved a major milestone with the installation of the first “golden row” of solar panels at its Powell Creek solar project in Ohio. This marks a significant step forward in Avangrid's efforts to expand renewable energy capacity in the region.
The Powell Creek solar project, located near Miller City in Putnam County, has already installed over 1,000 panels out of a planned total of approximately 300,000.
Once operational, the facility will have a direct current (DC) capacity of 202 MW, capable of generating enough electricity to power about 30,000 households annually.
Construction of the Powell Creek solar plant began in 2023, making it Avangrid's second major renewable energy initiative in Ohio following the Blue Creek wind farm.
