RWE AG and Masdar, a UAE-based renewables developer, have moved forward with their 3-gigawatt Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind project in the UK.
The project's development consent order (DCO) application has been accepted into the examination phase by the local Planning Inspectorate, marking a pivotal step towards its realization.
Located in shallow waters of the North Sea, approximately 100 kilometers off the northeast coast of England, Dogger Bank South consists of two projects: Dogger Bank South East and Dogger Bank South West.
This ambitious 200-turbine complex aims to generate enough clean energy to meet the demands of about three million homes in the region.
The next phases for RWE and Masdar involve securing contracts for difference (CfD), followed by financing and commencing construction. The project underscores a significant advancement in the UK's renewable energy ambitions, leveraging the vast offshore wind potential of the North Sea to bolster local energy security and contribute to sustainability efforts.
