CWP Global and Corner Brook Port Corporation Explore Green Hydrogen Hub in Newfoundland

Renewable energy developer and Corporation (CPBC) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a green hub at an industrial port in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada's eastern province.

Dubbed Project Gwinya, the initiative plans to utilize up to 5 GW of wind power capacity to generate green hydrogen.

Additionally, the envisioned complex will house a green hydrogen-powered hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant for the production of environmentally friendly iron, as outlined in a press statement by CWP on Friday.

CWP intends to initiate public information sessions in July and proceed with formal project registration, , and feasibility studies. These assessments will evaluate various aspects of the proposed hub, including , logistics, and economic impacts.

Steve Delaney, business and development manager for hydrogen at CWP, emphasized the project's commitment to engaging local communities, First Nations, and stakeholders throughout its development phases.
