Vestas has successfully installed its largest onshore wind turbine, the V172-7.2MW, at the Osterlid test centre in Denmark, with plans for initial power production by the end of July 2024, the company announced on Wednesday.
“This milestone is thanks to our dedicated team's efforts,” Vestas stated. The prototype will now undergo extensive testing to ensure reliability before commencing serial production.
Designed with a modular concept, the V172-7.2MW is poised to enhance scalability across the wind industry, the company added. Vestas highlighted its performance benefits in low to medium wind conditions, noting an increase of 12% in Annual Energy Production (AEP) compared to its predecessor, the V162-6.2MW variant.
Since its launch in 2019, the EnVentus platform, featuring four variants with flexible power ratings, has garnered over 15 gigawatts in orders across 25 markets worldwide.
