Danish investor Obton has entered a joint venture (JV) with developer GSSG Solar LLC and its affiliates to acquire a 117-megawatt (MW) solar portfolio in Japan.
The portfolio includes eight operational solar parks with a combined capacity of 104 MW, alongside one 13-MW project currently under development. These operational solar farms have been commissioned between 2017 and 2022.
Once fully operational, the portfolio is expected to generate sufficient clean electricity to meet the needs of over 30,000 Japanese households.
This JV marks Obton's continued expansion in the Japanese solar market. Prior to this agreement, the Danish company had acquired GSSG's 82-MW solar plant in Fukushima, Japan.
The partnership underscores Obton's strategic focus on bolstering its renewable energy footprint in Japan, leveraging GSSG Solar's expertise and existing infrastructure to enhance clean energy production capabilities in the region.
