The Smulders yard in Wallsend, England, has welcomed the arrival of two 545-megavolt amp transformers destined for the 1100MW Inch Cape offshore wind farm, marking a milestone in UK renewable energy infrastructure.
Transported from Zagreb, Croatia, via Rotterdam, Netherlands, the transformers have been described by the developer as the largest ever capacity AC transformers for a UK offshore wind project.
According to reports, the hardware, delivered aboard the coaster vessel H&S Wisdom, will undergo assembly and rigorous testing by Siemens Energy at the facility before installation onto the offshore transformer module.
Developed by Koncar Power Transformers and prepared for electrical fit-out by Smulders, Sarens, and Eastgate Engineering, the transformers represent a crucial component in enhancing the energy output and efficiency of the Inch Cape wind farm.
