Heerema Marine Contractors has been awarded contracts for the transportation and installation of 100 monopiles and transition pieces for two offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
The projects, known as MFW Baltyk 2 and MFW Baltyk 3, are joint ventures equally owned by Equinor and Polenergia, each boasting a capacity of 720MW.
Located approximately 27km and 40km from the port of Leba, these wind farms aim to enhance Poland's energy security while contributing to global efforts in energy transition.
The monopiles and transition pieces, sourced from European fabrication yards, will be installed using Heerema's heavy lift vessel, Thialf.
Jeroen van Oosten, Chief Commercial Officer at Heerema, emphasized the significance of these contracts, stating, “These contracts underscore our commitment to supporting the global energy transition and enhancing Poland's energy security.”
The combined capacity of Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 is expected to reach 1.4GW, marking a substantial contribution to renewable energy generation in the region.
