Savion LLC, a company within Shell Plc's portfolio, has finalized the sale of a 150-megawatt (MW) solar project in Illinois to Ameren Corporation's electric and gas service arm in Missouri, announced on Thursday. The transaction underscores a significant step forward in renewable energy development in the region.
Located near Beardstown on approximately 1,700 acres, the Cass County Solar Project is poised to become a cornerstone of clean energy production. Once operational, the facility will feature up to 330,000 solar modules, generating enough electricity to power approximately 27,500 homes annually.
Scheduled for completion by the end of the year, the Cass County site is strategically positioned to contribute to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) power grid, enhancing regional energy reliability and sustainability.
“Savion is pleased to have reached this milestone with the sale of the Cass County Solar Project,” stated a representative from Savion, highlighting the company's commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure.
Savion initiated construction on the project in June 2023, following the acquisition of necessary permits in 2020. Ameren Missouri's involvement was solidified with approval and a certificate of convenience and necessity from the Missouri Public Service Commission in June, underscoring regulatory support for advancing clean energy initiatives.
