Chile’s Renewable Energy Share Falls to 33.6% in May

In May, the share of non-conventional renewables in 's gross power generation mix decreased to 33.6% from 38.1% recorded the previous month, according to data released by the Chilean national energy commission (CNE).

Gross power production from non-conventional sources fell by 2.8% month-on-month to 2,514 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in May. However, this output level represented a 3.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, conventional power sources saw a notable 18.0% month-on-month rise in production, reaching 4,965 GWh.

Overall, Chile's power system generated a total of 7,480 GWh in May, marking a 10.1% increase compared to April and a 6.3% increase year-on-year.

During the same period, Chile's net installed capacity for non-conventional renewable energy increased slightly from 14,899 megawatts (MW) in April to 14,971 MW in May.

The fluctuations in renewable energy generation highlight ongoing dynamics in Chile's energy sector, as the country navigates shifts in energy production and consumption patterns amid broader economic and environmental considerations.
