Fugro, a longstanding presence in Japan's geo-data sector, has been chosen to conduct site characterisation surveys for a significant offshore wind project off the coast of Murakami and Tainai cities in Niigata Prefecture. This initiative, developed by a consortium comprising RWE, Mitsui & Co, and Osaka Gas, aims to bolster Japan's offshore wind capacity in alignment with its carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
Jerry Paisley, Fugro's Regional Sales Director, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting Japan's renewable energy ambitions: “Fugro has been established in Japan for more than 30 years, and RWE is a key global client of ours. So we're pleased that RWE, Mitsui & Co., and Osaka Gas have chosen us to deliver this important Japanese wind farm project.”
The survey work, conducted from Fugro's Amber Jack jack-up platform and vessels Equator and Mariner, will utilize advanced geophysical, geotechnical, and positioning systems. These systems are crucial for acquiring precise geo-data essential for the detailed design of turbine foundations and cable routes, crucial elements in the offshore wind farm's development.
This collaboration underscores Fugro's expertise in providing essential geo-data solutions globally, contributing significantly to the advancement of sustainable energy infrastructure in Japan.
