Deutsche WindGuard Consulting to Support German Offshore Wind Farm Site Investigations

Consulting has secured a contract from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) to conduct preliminary investigations for new wind farm sites in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the . The Varel-based testing and calibration laboratory will provide comprehensive meteorological reports for areas N-13.1, N-13.2, and N-6.8, slated for in 2026 and 2027.

“We are pleased that BSH has chosen to leverage our expertise and extensive experience in wind condition analysis,” said Johannes Cordes, project coordinator and deputy head of site & energy assessment at Deutsche WindGuard. “Our reports aim to provide reliable data for potential bidders in upcoming offshore wind farm auctions.”

The contract entails reviewing meteorological measurements conducted by other contractors using floating LiDAR buoys and applying advanced correction techniques to account for wake effects from neighboring wind farms. This meticulous approach ensures the accuracy of wind potential assessments crucial for site development planning.

Martin Strack, Head of site & energy assessment at Deutsche WindGuard, highlighted the significance of their work: “In addition to assessing wind potential, we are compiling a multi-year reference time series that will serve as a cornerstone for understanding North Sea wind conditions, akin to a virtual met mast.”
