Energy data provider TGS has unveiled plans for a new campaign to conduct offshore wind and metocean measurements in Morro Bay, California, marking its first venture on the US West Coast.
The three-year initiative aims to bolster industry insights across three wind energy lease areas by calibrating TGS's proprietary wind models with observational data.
“This deployment is a significant step towards enhancing our understanding of offshore conditions in Morro Bay,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS. “It underscores our commitment to supporting the growth of the global offshore wind industry.”
The project, set to commence in the third quarter of 2024, will leverage advanced sensors to capture detailed measurements crucial for environmental impact assessments and technical decisions in wind farm development.
Data collected, including wind speed, wave heights, ocean currents, and environmental impacts, will be streamed and quality-controlled via TGS's Wind AXIOM platform.
This platform aims to expedite decision-making processes by providing critical insights into offshore wind project viability.
