Siemens Gamesa has attained type certification from TUV Nord for its SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine, following a rigorous testing process over the past year. The turbine achieved first power from its prototype at the Oesterild test site in Denmark in March 2023, showcasing its advanced capabilities.
Equipped with Power Boost technology, the SG 14-236 DD originally designed with a 14MW capacity can be upgraded to 15MW. Featuring a 236-meter rotor diameter, the turbine promises more than a 30% increase in annual energy production compared to previous models.
According to Siemens Gamesa, the SG 14-236 DD has already secured orders totaling 8GW. It is slated to be deployed at prominent projects such as RWE's Thor offshore wind farm, a 1.1GW installation off Denmark's coast.
Orsted has also confirmed the use of this turbine model for its Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, a 2900MW project located off the coast of England, after taking the final investment decision in late 2023.
