Lion Storage, a leading player in large-scale energy storage solutions, announced today the attainment of a building permit for its ambitious Project Mufasa in the Netherlands. The project entails the deployment of a 364-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 1,457 megawatt-hours (MWh).
Located in the strategic North Sea port of Vlissingen, Project Mufasa is poised to support the region's burgeoning energy landscape, particularly amidst the development of large-scale hydrogen and offshore wind initiatives. The BESS, designed with a four-hour duration, will benefit from direct connectivity to the high-voltage grid managed by transmission system operator TenneT Holding BV.
“The Dutch energy transition demands greater flexibility as our electricity grid faces unprecedented challenges. Without robust energy storage solutions, the Netherlands risks heightened grid instability and security of supply concerns,” Lion Storage underscored in a social media statement on Monday.
