Brazil witnessed a substantial rise in its renewable energy sector in 2023, with renewables contributing 49.1% to the country's energy mix, as per the annual National Energy Balance report.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) attributed this surge to the development of wind, solar, and biomass energy sources, signaling a significant milestone in Brazil's energy transition.
Although hydropower remained stable, accounting for 12% of the renewable generation, the growth in wind, solar, and biomass was particularly noteworthy.
The National Energy Balance report, jointly prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the state-owned energy research firm EPE, serves as a comprehensive overview of Brazil's energy sector, highlighting key performance indicators such as energy import and export, distribution, and end-use.
