DTEK Renewables Expands in Balkans with Solar Acquisition in Romania and Wind Farm Plans in Croatia

DTEK Renewables International (DRI), the green energy unit of Ukraine's DTEK Group, is expanding its presence in the Balkans with the acquisition of a 126-MW solar project in Romania and plans to build a 127.5-MW wind farm in Croatia. The Amsterdam-based renewables developer announced on Tuesday its acquisition of a photovoltaic (PV) park in southern Romania's Dambovita county. This purchase has increased its local renewables portfolio to 239 MW, adding to existing assets such as a 53-MW solar farm in Mures County and a 60-MW wind park in Iasi County. The Vacaresti solar park in Romania is scheduled to begin construction in autumn and be operational a year later. With an expected annual output of around 205.8 GWh, it will have the capacity to power approximately 50,000 homes. All necessary permits, as well as land and grid connections, are already secured for the project. DRI's objective is to have 1 GW of renewables capacity operational in Romania by 2028. Additionally, DRI recently revealed plans for a wind farm in Croatia, marking its first project in the country as part of its goal to deploy 500 MW of wind and solar capacity in Croatia by 2028. The proposed wind farm, named Brda Umovi, will be located in Split, Dalmatia County, and is expected to commence operations in autumn 2026. It is projected to generate approximately 338 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of about 83,000 homes. Construction is slated to start next summer after securing all necessary permits. The wind farm will be connected to a new substation with a capacity to connect 300 MW. DRI expressed interest in signing long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the future output and potentially a Contract for Difference (CfD) with the Croatian government.
