The consent decision follows a comprehensive Public Local Inquiry conducted in 2022, which was initiated in response to a Section 36 application filed by a wildlife charity back in 2019. This thorough inquiry allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the project's potential environmental impact and its compatibility with existing regulations.

In line with Vattenfall's commitment to environmental stewardship, the company has already made notable strides at its operational Clashindarroch site. The completion of peat bog restoration and tree planting initiatives stands as a testament to their dedication to sustainable practices.

As part of its efforts to protect the endangered Scottish wildcat species, Vattenfall has pledged to further enhance the habitat at Clashindarroch. Plans include the development of habitat corridors that will connect the Clashindarroch forest with other large woodland areas in the vicinity, creating vital pathways for the wildcats. The company will also focus on managing the riverbanks within the site and constructing artificial dens conducive to wildcat shelter and reproduction. Furthermore, Vattenfall aims to expand the available roaming space for these magnificent creatures.

In a bid to effectively monitor and improve conditions for the wildcats, Vattenfall has committed to employing a full-time project officer dedicated to their conservation. Additionally, the company will allocate funds to a project that addresses the critical issue of domestic and feral cats interbreeding with the wildcat population—an issue posing the most significant threat to the Scottish wildcat.
