Statkraft, a prominent renewable energy company, has unveiled ambitious plans to establish a significant presence in Germany's clean energy sector. The company aims to develop 2000MW of wind and solar power by 2030, thereby contributing to the country's renewable energy targets and accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. With the ongoing energy crisis in Europe and the pressing need to address climate change, Statkraft believes it is well positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping Germany's energy system transformation.
Stefan-Jörg Göbel, the Statkraft country manager in Germany, emphasized the urgency of expanding renewable energy capacity to meet climate objectives and expedite the phase-out of fossil fuels. He stated that the company is prepared to tackle this challenge by implementing concrete solutions. Statkraft plans to establish an organization capable of developing and constructing 300 to 500MW of wind and solar capacity annually in Germany, starting from 2027.

In addition to this ambitious renewable energy plan, Statkraft already possesses a portfolio of 1800MW flexible power plants. Göbel highlighted the company's unique combination of strength and flexibility, asserting that it is poised to become one of the leading players in the global renewable energy sector. With a strong financial position, Statkraft aims to build 2500 to 3000MW of renewable energy capacity each year, equivalent to commissioning a new power plant every nine days, starting from 2025.
Statkraft initially entered the German market as a developer in 2019. Now, the company is striving to become a key supplier of green hydrogen in select European markets. In Germany specifically, Statkraft plans to have a minimum of 250MW of installed electrolysis capacity operational by 2030. The company recently announced plans for a 10MW pilot project at the existing power plant site in Emden, which is anticipated to commence operations in 2025, subject to necessary permits and funding.
Furthermore, Statkraft intends to utilize other power plant sites in Germany to explore their potential for green hydrogen production. By 2030, the company aims to connect electrolysers with a total capacity of up to 200MW to the future hydrogen pipeline network, facilitating the production of green hydrogen. These endeavors highlight Statkraft's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its strategic role in driving the energy transition in Germany and beyond.
