Boralex, a leading renewable energy company, has announced the commissioning of its second energy storage unit in France. The battery has a storage capacity of over 3.3 megawatt hours (MWh) and is installed at the Plouguin wind farm site, in Finistère, Brittany.
The project was initiated after the Brittany Regional Council launched a call for expressions of interest in 2019. Boralex was selected for the project, which was co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and supported by the local association Smart Ideas to Link Energies (SMILE).

The storage unit was developed by Entech, a storage systems specialist based in Quimper (Finistère). It is expected to support grid stability in France, particularly in Brittany, and aid the integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid.
Nicolas Wolff, executive vice president and general manager of Boralex, Europe, highlighted the importance of energy storage in the current context of accelerating renewable energy development and growing energy needs. He said, “Energy storage is a promising solution for greater grid flexibility and more efficient consumption of competitive, low-carbon energy.”
Wolff added, “Thanks to sites like Plouguin and, before it, Vallée de l'Arce (Aube, Grand Est), we are looking beyond just producing green energy. We are putting in place innovative services to accompany the rise of renewable energies and contribute to the energy transition.”
