Fugro, a leading geodata specialist, has recently been awarded a contract to perform an offshore geotechnical site investigation for Australia's offshore wind project, Star of the South (SOTS). The wind farm is situated off the coast of Gippsland in southeastern Australia and is expected to have a significant impact on Victoria's energy sector, providing clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.
The SOTS Chief Executive Officer, Charles Rattray, stated that Fugro's ability to collect high-quality geophysical and geotechnical data while maintaining exemplary health, safety, security, and environmental standards were crucial factors in awarding the contract. Fugro's experience in working on offshore renewable energy projects worldwide and delivering ground investigations safely and to the highest standard was also a significant factor in their selection.

Shalu Shajahan, Fugro's APAC Regional Business Line Director, expressed the company's pride in collecting critical data for the project. “We are deeply committed to supporting energy transition, climate change adaptation, and sustainable infrastructure development through our investigations and solutions. We are proud to be part of the Start of the South project supporting the transition to renewable energy,” added Shajahan.
The geotechnical data collected by Fugro will help ensure the project's success by providing vital information on the seabed's conditions. This knowledge will aid in designing and placing turbines and developing construction methods tailored to the location in Bass Strait.
