Vestas Wind Systems Unveils Impressive V236-15.0 MW Offshore Wind Turbine

Vestas Wind Systems, the company, has recently completed testing on their newest prototype, the V236-15.0 MW wind turbine. Standing at an impressive height of 280 meters with a blade span of 236 meters, the V236-15.0 MW is almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower and has a rotating surface of over 43,000 square meters.

According to Vestas, the V236-15.0 MW is not just a “monster” wind turbine, but rather an energy solution that is highly efficient in capturing air currents. The turbine is currently being tested at the Østerild test center in northern Denmark, where it is exposed to the full force of the wind.

“Going as high as possible also has an energy efficiency motive. The higher you go, the stronger the air currents. Capturing these air currents is essential, especially at sea where the potential is even greater than on land,” explained a Vestas representative.

Vestas plans to use the V236-15.0 MW in wind farms along the coasts. One wind turbine alone has the capacity to produce 80 GWh of energy, which is equivalent to the consumption of 20,000 European households or the inhabitants of a city of 50,000 people.

In addition to its impressive energy production capabilities, the V236-15.0 MW also helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions. “In terms of CO2 emission savings, the wind turbine offers 38,000 tons less carbon dioxide emissions. This is equivalent to removing approximately 25,000 thermal wagons from circulation,” said the Vestas representative.

The V236-15.0 MW is scheduled to launch in Q3 2023 and will be used in offshore wind farm projects in and . With its high energy output and positive impact on the environment, the V236-15.0 MW is set to be a game changer in the world of offshore wind energy.
