Vattenfall has officially inaugurated the Klaverspoor wind farm, the first site in the Energy A16 project, located in the municipality of Moerdijk, the Netherlands. The facility comprises six turbines with a combined capacity of over 34MW and contributes to North Brabant's goal of using 100% sustainable energy by 2050.
The opening ceremony was attended by Anne-Marie Spierings, Member of the Provincial Executive for North Brabant, and Gerard van Oostveen, head of wind farm development at Vattenfall Netherlands.

In her opening remarks, Spierings commended the collaborative efforts of the developer, local residents, municipality, and the province in bringing the project to fruition. “This site is an example of good consultation,” she said. “Partly thanks to the efforts of Energiek Moerdijk, 25% of the wind turbines are locally owned, and all residents share. This makes Energie A16 unique in the Netherlands. Together we are taking an important step towards a sustainable future.”
The Energie A16 project aims to bundle eight sites to be installed with a total of 28 wind turbines along the A16 highway. The Klaverspoor wind farm is the first of the sites to be opened, and the remaining sites are expected to follow in the coming years.
Gerard van Oostveen of Vattenfall Netherlands expressed his enthusiasm for the successful completion of the project. “The opening of the Klaverspoor wind farm is a significant milestone in the Energy A16 project,” he said. “We are committed to supporting the province's ambition of becoming fully sustainable by 2050, and this project is an important step towards achieving that goal.”

The Klaverspoor wind farm is expected to generate over 100 GWh of electricity per year, contributing significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the fight against climate change. The project is an excellent example of how sustainable energy can be achieved through collaboration and consultation between developers, local residents, and the government.
