Denmark strengthens cooperation with China for green transition and climate negotiations

Danish delegation led by Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, , arrived in Beijing on April 20-21 to reinforce the collaboration with China in the area of green transition and international climate negotiations. The minister had meetings scheduled with top officials from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, National Energy Administration, and the National Development and Reform Commission.

The visit aimed to accelerate the green transition and increase ambitions for at the end of this year in the United Arab Emirates. The minister also met with , Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, to discuss further possibilities of cooperation between the two countries.

Since the initiation of bilateral energy cooperation in 2005, China and have developed a broad-ranging government-to-government collaboration in several areas of mutual interest such as , scenario planning, power system flexibility, energy efficiency, and district heating.

Minister Dan Jørgensen stated, “We have a longstanding partnership with China on green transition, and this visit further strengthens our collaboration. Denmark is ready to work with China to accelerate the green transition and raise ambitions for COP28 in the United Arab Emirates at the end of this year.”

During his stay in Beijing, the minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Energy Administration and the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Utilities, with the objective of deepening bilateral cooperation on energy and district heating to speed up China's green transition.

The minister expressed his confidence in the partnership and stated, “We have great expectations for the continued collaboration between Denmark and China. Our long-standing partnership on green transition has already resulted in significant progress towards a more sustainable future, and I am confident that we will continue to make strides towards our common goal.”
