Lightsource BP, a leading global renewable energy developer, has announced the appointment of Juan Luis Cantón as the new Country Head in Spain. Cantón will succeed Fernando Roger, who has helped establish Lightsource BP's Spanish operations and will now assume the role of Director of Southern Europe.
Cantón brings with him over 20 years of experience in the renewable energy industry and will play a pivotal role in driving Lightsource BP's growth ambitions in the country. The company has recently announced progress on 19 solar projects across Spain, which would lead to local investment of around €1.2bn.
Kareen Boutonnat, CEO of EMEA & APAC for Lightsource BP, expressed excitement on welcoming Cantón to the team and acknowledged his significant development experience that would be valuable in driving momentum for Lightsource BP's growth across Spain. Boutonnat also thanked Fernando Roger for his incredible efforts in growing the company's business in Spain and wished him all the success in his new role.
Fernando Roger, who has worked at Lightsource BP for a decade, stated that Cantón's appointment demonstrates the company's growth and evolution over the years, both in terms of team size and results. Roger believes that the role would provide Cantón with an excellent opportunity to drive success and establish Lightsource BP as a clear leader across the Spanish energy market.
Cantón expressed his gratitude for the trust that Lightsource BP has placed in him and his excitement to contribute to the expansion of the company in Spain. He further emphasized the importance of collaboration with a team of professionals who appreciate the work done so far and are motivated to accelerate the decarbonisation of the planet.
Since entering the Spanish market, Lightsource BP has grown to reach 400MW of built and connected solar in the last two years. The Spanish team has 3GW of projects in different stages of development, including 1620MW that has recently received environmental authorization and is expected to be launched by 2025. The company's commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development is expected to drive further growth in Spain and globally.
