Omani renewable energy company Solar Wadi has secured a license to establish a commercial-scale solar power project in Suhar Industrial City.
The proposed project, with a capacity of between 86-100 MWp, aims to provide a cheaper source of electricity to the tenants of the industrial city while also helping them to meet decarbonization targets and maintain their competitive advantage.
An area of over 1 million square meters within Phase 7 of the Suhar Industrial City plan has been designated for the installation of solar panels and related facilities.
Solar Wadi has launched a competitive tender and invited qualified companies to submit expressions of interest in bidding for the contract to implement the project. The deadline for submission is January 26, 2023.
The project's output will be exclusively for the tenants of the industrial city, with no option for injection into the main grid. The capacity may be increased with the addition of energy storage systems.
Solar Wadi is among the largest private developers of renewable energy in Oman and is backed by a group of pension funds, Omani investors, and international solar developers.
