German energy company has agreed to supply clean energy from its Nordsee Ost and Amrumbank West offshore wind farms to 12 customers via power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Beginning in 2025 and 2026, respectively, RWE will provide 1,500 GWh of green electricity per year to 11 industrial customers and one municipal utility. Most of the PPAs are for a ten-year period.

The Nordsee Ost and Amrumbank West wind farms, located about 60km off the German North Sea coast, have been operational since 2015 and feature 48 and 80 wind turbines, respectively.

RWE supply and trading CCO Ulf Kerstin said: “The great interest of our customers in these power purchase agreements shows how important carbon-free electricity has become for the German industry.

“With these long-term contracts we are ensuring planning security for both parties and helping to remain competitive as a location for production.

“We are preparing to market further electricity from offshore wind farms that are currently under development to supply industrial customers with high-quality green electricity.”

RWE announced that the company will offer direct purchase options to customers, including as-produced and planned delivery with a profile or delivery tailored to meet a continuous electricity load.

The electricity generated at two German offshore wind farms has already been sold to Deutsche Bahn under power purchase agreements (PPAs) in 2019, 2020, and 2021. With the new PPAs, all power produced by the two wind farms from 2026 will be sold under contract, according to the German company.
