Solugen Inc has obtained a conditional commitment from the US Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) for a loan guarantee worth USD 213.6 million (EUR 199.9 million). This financial support will aid in the construction of a new bio-based chemical products facility in Southwest Minnesota.
Named Bioforge Marshall, the forthcoming 500,000-square-foot biomanufacturing plant will leverage dextrose to expand production of Solugen's organic acids and other anticipated products. The facility will utilize Solugen's Bioforge technology platform, designed to convert biomass into high-demand chemicals.
The bio-based chemical products manufactured at Bioforge Marshall will find applications in diverse sectors including wastewater treatment, industrial processes, construction, agriculture, and energy. The plant is projected to commence operations in autumn 2025.
According to Sean Hunt, Solugen's Chief Technology Officer, “Scaling our Bioforge platform is not only a technological advancement, but a strategic move to fortify the domestic supply chain for critical chemicals.”
