Uzbekistan has committed to increasing its renewable energy capacity to 40% by 2030, according to an announcement from the president's office. This year, the country plans to integrate the initial 2.6 GW of 14 solar and wind power plants into its grid, which will raise the contribution of renewable sources to its overall electricity output from 9% to 15%.
Currently, Uzbekistan is constructing 32 green energy facilities, with a total capacity of 18.3 GW and an investment value of $19 billion, in partnership with international collaborators.
In addition, Uzbekhydroenergo, the national energy company, has launched a hydropower development program set to run until 2030. This initiative aims to maximize the country's hydroelectric potential and introduce new generating capacities.
Under this program, over 50 significant investment projects are being undertaken, with plans to boost the capacity of hydropower plants (HPP) to 6 GW by 2030. This will be achieved through the construction of new HPPs and the modernization of existing ones, marking a transformative era for Uzbekistan's energy sector.
