Haffner Energy and LanzaJet Join Forces for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project

, in collaboration with leading alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology provider , announced today the development of the “Paris-Vatry SAF” sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant at Paris-Vatry airport.

The project, spearheaded by Haffner Energy, aims to establish an initial capacity of 30,000 metric tons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) per year, with potential for production expansion. Paris-Vatry SAF marks the inaugural endeavor in a series of new SAF projects leveraging Haffner Energy's solutions.

, CEO of Haffner Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with LanzaJet, stating, “Our collaboration with LanzaJet for the Paris-Vatry SAF project allows both companies to bring decisive advantages for the production of SAF through the ATJ pathway. We are thrilled to be working with LanzaJet and provide together a solution compatible with European mandates thanks to our combined technologies.”

The ATJ pathway, selected for the “Paris-Vatry SAF” project, stands out as one of the two most advanced pathways for ASTM-approved SAF production. To meet EU regulations on SAF, biomass sourcing must currently adhere to advanced feedstock standards, a requirement effectively addressed by SAFNOCA, Haffner Energy's biomass-agnostic solution. Through the ATJ pathway, syngas generated by SAFNOCA undergoes conversion into ethanol via LanzaTech's carbon recycling technology, subsequently transformed into SAF using LanzaJet's leading ATJ technology.

Moreover, Haffner Energy plans to prioritize residual and local biomass, aligning with sustainable principles and benefiting the community through the circular economy.

Leveraging 30 years of expertise in advanced feedstock conversion into syngas, Haffner Energy's technology ensures compliance with European SAF mandates through the ATJ pathway.

, CEO of LanzaJet, emphasized the significance of the partnership with Haffner Energy, stating, “Decarbonizing aviation is a global mission for at LanzaJet, and this partnership with Haffner Energy at Paris-Vatry showcases the versatility of our Alcohol-to-Jet technology platform to address a range of low-carbon, sustainable feedstocks.”

LanzaJet's ATJ technology, renowned as a global leader in the field, received notable recognition on the prestigious “TIME 100 Most Influential Companies” 2024 list, underlining its pivotal role in driving aviation decarbonization efforts.
