German project developer JUWI Group has struck a deal with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association to offload two solar schemes in Colorado, totaling 327 MW DC, in what marks the local non-profit wholesale power supplier's inaugural acquisition of renewable projects.
The agreement encompasses the sale of the Axial Basin Solar project, boasting a capacity of 186 MW DC in Moffat County, and the Dolores Canyon Solar site, with a capacity of 141 MW DC in Dolores County. Both projects are slated for commissioning in late 2025, as per a press statement released on Wednesday.
The acquisition underscores Tri-State's commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives, as it strives to achieve a significant milestone of 50% renewable energy use by its members. This acquisition, coupled with earlier agreements with JUWI Group, positions Tri-State to serve its members with a cumulative 680 MW of solar capacity across eight facilities by the end of 2025.
Commenting on the deal, Juwi's involvement in advancing renewable energy in Colorado was highlighted, as the company was previously selected in 2020 to construct 500 MW of solar parks for Tri-State under a power purchase agreement. Notably, the 179-MW DC Spanish Peaks solar farm, part of this agreement, has already reached the halfway mark of completion.
