, a leading developer in solutions, has secured a significant stride forward in its renewable and ammonia production endeavors in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy of Quebec has awarded a block of to Hy2gen Canada's 300MW Courant project, a crucial development marking the commencement of front-end engineering and bringing the final investment decision within reach.

“This recognition is a vote of confidence in our vision and commitment to producing renewable hydrogen in Quebec,” remarked Hy2gen's chief executive, Cyril Dufau-Sansot, expressing gratitude for the government's decision. “This is a giant step forward for Hy2gen Canada and the renewable energy industry, enabling us to make a significant contribution to decarbonizing the economy and achieving Quebec's ambitious sustainable development goals.”

The Courant project is poised to make a substantial impact, with plans to produce 237,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia annually, leveraging a robust electrolyser capacity of 300MW. The steady supply of electricity from Hydro-Québec's hydro-electric-based power grid ensures continuous operation of the electrolysis process, crucial for water splitting into oxygen and hydrogen.

“We are grateful to the Quebec government, Hydro-Québec, and the people of Baie-Comeau for their help in developing this flagship project,” expressed Pietro Di Zanno, Hy2gen Canada's director. “We look forward to working with everyone to advance the project and reap the benefits for Quebec.”

The Courant project's strategic location promises shorter transport routes to off-takers, facilitating the utilization of ammonia in decarbonizing chemicals production and fostering the transition towards a sustainable and emission-neutral industry.

Pending a positive final investment decision, construction of the renewable ammonia plant is slated to commence in the second half of 2026, with initial production anticipated by 2029, contingent upon Hydro-Québec's connection schedule. This milestone underscores Hy2gen Canada's commitment to pioneering renewable energy solutions, marking a significant advancement towards a greener, more sustainable future.
