French independent green energy operator Valorem has announced the addition of 31 MW of new capacity to its operational wind power generation fleet within the country.
On Tuesday, the company inaugurated a 9-MW wind farm in the Mayenne department of northwestern France in collaboration with partner Societe Energie Mayenne, community representatives, and officials.
The project, named Rose des Vents Energies, involved an investment of EUR 15 million (USD 16.3m), with EUR 660,000 secured through a local crowdfunding campaign. Societe Energie Mayenne contributed EUR 400,000 to the initiative.
Situated in Fontaine-Couverte, the wind farm comprises three turbine generators and is anticipated to produce 20 GWh of electricity annually. The generated power, sufficient to cover 23% of residential electricity needs in the Pays de Craon community of communes, will be procured by French retail group Mousquetaires under a 20-year power off-take agreement.
Additionally, Valorem has commissioned its 22-MW Saint-Amans-Valtoret wind farm in the Tarn department of Occitania, southern France. This 10-turbine facility is projected to generate nearly 61 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to approximately 5% of the total residential electricity demand in Tarn.
