European car manufacturer Stellanti has partnered with Spanish renewables developer Prosolia Energy to enhance its sustainability efforts by installing a 6.9-MW wind turbine at its factory in Zaragoza, Spain.
Supplied by Nordex SE, the turbine will complement the existing solar panels at the factory site, establishing a self-consumption hybrid system.
Three years ago, Prosolia Energy installed an 8.64-MWp ground-mounted solar array at the Zaragoza factory, leveraging its own investments in exchange for a power purchase agreement (PPA).
Stellantis announced on Tuesday its collaboration with Prosolia for a multi-phase solar and wind hybridization project. The initiative aims to generate up to 30.8 MW of solar and 27.6 MW of wind power, allowing the car factory to fulfill 80% of its electricity requirements with renewable sources.
Prosolia has entered into an agreement with the Nordex Group to advance this project, suggesting the potential installation of four 6.9-MW turbine units.
Construction activities for the first wind turbine are already in progress, with Stellantis and Prosolia aiming to complete this phase of the project by the end of 2024, according to the car manufacturer.
