Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has finalized a significant long-term resource adequacy agreement for its 112.5-MW/450-MWh Sierra Pinta standalone battery energy storage project located in Yuma County, Arizona.
In a statement released today, LRE, a subsidiary of OMERS Infrastructure, announced the signing of a 15-year contract with Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) for the battery facility. This agreement marks a strategic move to dispatch power during peak load times, aligning with the energy and grid resiliency objectives of both Arizona and California.
Situated adjacent to LRE's 179-MW White Wing Ranch solar project, presently under construction, the Sierra Pinta energy storage project is poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering the region's renewable energy infrastructure.
Construction for the Sierra Pinta energy storage scheme is slated to commence in September 2024, with operations expected to commence in the first half of 2025. Upon completion, the facility will have the capacity to power over 90,100 US homes for four hours, further contributing to the region's sustainable energy goals.
