UK energy regulator Ofgem announced on Friday its issuance of an electricity generation license to Statkraft AS for its 48-MW Mossy Hill wind farm on Scotland's Shetland islands.
Planned for construction outside Lerwick, the wind park is set to feature 12 turbines, projected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of over 34,000 homes. Statkraft's website indicates that the project is presently in the pre-construction phase.
Mossy Hill underwent development under the auspices of Peel Wind Farms Ltd and received planning consent from the Shetland Islands Council in 2019. In April of the previous year, Norwegian state-owned power company Statkraft acquired the project, alongside the 72-MW Beaw Field scheme in Yell, Shetland.
The Mossy Hill endeavor includes a proposition for a new substation installation to link the wind farm to a 132-kV transmission network currently under construction. The proposal was publicly unveiled last month.
