European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ken Saito convened a high-level hydrogen business forum in Japan on Monday, aimed at bolstering collaboration in the realm of hydrogen energy.
In a joint press statement, both parties underscored their commitment to collaborative efforts in advancing clean energy sectors, particularly focusing on wind, solar, and hydrogen. They expressed mutual concerns regarding reliance on specific sources of supply for strategic goods and emphasized the importance of fostering a level playing field.
Discussions at the forum encompassed various facets including industrial cooperation, financial support measures, and research and development initiatives. Key industry executives from both Japan and the EU actively participated in these deliberations.
In her opening remarks, Commissioner Simson outlined the objectives of the meeting, emphasizing the necessity to cultivate stronger ties and exchange innovative ideas among European and Japanese business leaders. She articulated the shared ambition of the EU and Japan to expedite the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies.
Simson remarked, “Hydrogen will be an internationally traded commodity, and close EU-Japan cooperation will be essential for promoting renewable and low-carbon hydrogen globally and ensuring standards and regulation converge.”
